These applications are just about every kind of activity that human beings do :
I. From government planning to
II. Forest management
III. Discovery of oil
IV. Helping people in emergency situations (Coordination, Climate Change, Education)
V. Mine Action
VI. Agriculture
VII. Health
VIII. Retail Sitting
IX. Monitoring and Evaluation
X. Just about any field that you can think of, you can apply GIS!
By seeing the spatial and temporal connections to such things as watersheds, human settlement, natural hazards, soils, weather patterns, landforms, and land use, our students learning GIS are required to think holistically about communities, regions, and the planet. (GIS is a thinker’s tool).
Professionals involved in various programs can use GIS as a tool for planning, visualizing and monitoring these programs.
This training exposes participants to the use of GIS in programs with respect to Data Sources, Mapping, Infield Practical Applications, Technology and Timeline for implementation.
REQUIREMENTS
Participants MUST carry LAPTOPS and for software installations and hands-on practicals
OBJECTIVES AND OUTPUT TO PARTICIPANTS
• Participants will be skilled in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GPS and Mobile phones to gather data, collaborate and share information.
• Participants will be able to communicate interventions in a geographical context using maps to facilitate project visibility, accountability and transparency.
• Exposure of participants to data capture, input, manipulation and display by QGIS
Practical skills in the use of QGIS in mapping
• To expose participants to working with tabular data.
• To explain to the participants role of GIS as a decision support system in Humanitarian Work.
• To Carry out advanced analyses of geographical data using advanced QGIS (Buffer, Clipping)
• To develop basis of Understanding through practical’s and demonstrations and case studies
