Data collection have always been integral parts of humanitarian development work. In the past, these tasks were performed with paper and pen, which made them prone to error, difficult to conduct on a large scale, and high in transaction costs.

Mobile phones, data collection platforms FrontlineSMS and ODK (Collect, Build and Aggregate), and even software for reporting have reduced costs and time, improved data validity, and increased the ease of implementation. Some studies are showing these benefits.

Participants will be conversant with setup and use of the above tools in meeting the data collection needs of their organizations.
